Hair loss is not always preventable and it can be treated with varying success Hair loss is a widespread condition and many men and women are affected. There are many causes for hair loss and very often no matter how hard you try, there is nothing you can do to prevent it.
Preventing Hair Loss
However, in many cases hair loss is preventable. For instance, if you know that a particular health care product causes hair loss, don't use it. Or when you are on a diet, make sure that you don't starve your body, depriving it of vital vitamins and minerals. If stress is causing hair loss, try stress management techniques or, if possible, remove the cause of stress. In other cases, namely when the causes are hormonal or hereditary, hair loss can't be prevented but with proper treatment its effects can be minimized. Treatment of Hair Loss
Basically, there are three approaches to hair loss treatment – herbs, medication, surgery. Herbs like saw palmetto have been used successfully for centuries. Herbs are not a quick way to heal hair loss but they are the safest. Medicines like Propecia and Rogaine are also helpful but as with herbs, you might need to apply them for months or even years, till the effect becomes visible. Surgery is the radical approach to hair loss treatment but even surgery is powerless, if you are completely bald. Hair transplants are becoming more and more popular and though as with all kinds of surgery, they also have risks and disadvantages, vanity knows no boundaries. Surgery must be resorted to only if your doctor has prescribed it, so even if you are bold enough to go under the knife in the name of beauty, it is your doctor who decides whether this is a viable alternative for you or not. |
