The reasons for hair loss are complex

Hair loss is a very unpleasant condition. You can't die because of hair loss but the effects of hair loss on your appearance can be pretty severe. However, thanks to the advancement of modern medical industry and of the heals of the alternative medicine, the damage hair loss causes to an individual can be reduced. In order to achieve the best possible effects, it is important to correctly diagnose the reason for hair loss and to start treatment as early as possible.

What is Hair Loss?

Hair loss is, as the name implies, is the reduction or complete lack of hairs on your scalp. Hair loss can be permanent and temporary and there are many reasons that can trigger hair loss.

There are several patterns of hair loss. The most widespread is the so-called Male Pattern Baldness (MPB), which starts with falling hair from the front of the head, the vertex and finally the sides and the rear. Another type of hair loss, which is more typical for women, is the overall thinning of the hair and as a result of this small bald areas begin to appear.

The process of losing one's hair usually takes years and it is very rare to go completely bald over a short period of time. However, this does not mean that when you notice that you are losing hair, you can wait for years and then start treatment. No, this is a completely wrong approach – you should start treatment as early as possible because if you have gone completely bald, then it is too late to do anything.

Causes For Hair Loss

The first step in hair loss treatment is to discover the cause. There are several frequent causes for hair loss, like hereditary predisposition, hormones, stress, cancer and other diseases, diets and cosmetics. Hereditary and hormonal causes are the most frequent reasons for hair loss but the others are also not to be excluded from the list.

Basically hair loss is caused when your levels of the testosterone hormone are higher than the normal. Usually those high levels are hereditary, so if your male relatives (including the ones on your mother's side) have had hair loss, then the risk for you is higher.

Hormonal imbalances are also a frequent reason for hair loss. If the imbalances are temporary, i.e. during and after pregnancy and during menopause, when the proper hormonal balance is restored, your hair will start growing again.

Stress, especially long-term stress, can also trigger hair loss. If you are healthy and medical exams don't discover a disease, like cancer or diabetes that can lead to hair loss, but at the same time you are subject to stress at home and/or at work, it is quite likely that stress is responsible for your falling hair.

Cancer, diabetes and many other diseases also lead to hair loss, so if you see that your hair is falling, it is time to consult a doctor and get examined.

Diets and cosmetics are another cause of hair loss. Imbalanced diets, in which you omit vital vitamins and minerals, lead not to weight loss but to hair loss. Cosmetics also damage your hair, making it thinner and gradually disappearing. So, choose your hair care products wisely, if you don't want to see your hair leaving you.
